The Applications Engineering Senior Director will lead and manage the Power IC product line Customer Application Engineering team of 10-20, who are focusing on advanced customer design-in of multiphase digital controllers, power stages, PoL and modules for key Company AI, Computing, Networking, and Communication customers. This role requires establishing and leading the team, collaborating on internal and external customer partnerships, innovating in customer VR solutions, and delivering high-quality design-in collateral to drive Company revenue.  Key to success is establishing key customer relationships, leading the team in customer design wins and working diligently through any customer issues that arise.

Key Responsibilities

  • Direct and guide the technical application engineering team in go-to-market and customer design-in activities for multiphase controllers, power stages, and modules.
  • Establish deep relationships with key customers to enable VR design-in using Company products.
  • Create and implement procedures for product design-in and establish collateral, including datasheets, application notes, and simulation software. Create go-to-market evaluation boards, reference design schematics, and application notes.
  • Investigate and analyze customer power requirements, prepare detailed proposals, and assist customers in design bring-up.
  • Drive customer requirements into the Power IC roadmap and evaluate new power technologies and VR solutions.
  • Monitor, evaluate, and publish competitive analysis of competitor VR solutions.
  • Develop and evaluate personnel to ensure efficient team operation.
  • Plan and implement the Power IC product line application roadmap with demo boards and topologies for various applications.
  • Manage annual performance reviews, promotion plans, and team growth.
  • Provide advanced technical training to FAEs and key customers.
  • Engage in continuous learning for self and team.

Candidate Profile

The ideal candidate is highly motivated, energetic, and enthusiastic, with excellent communication skills and technical sharpness in power supply control techniques. They should have:

  • Experience in using digital controllers, power stages, PoL, and power stage modules for power management.
  • Great coaching, leadership, and mentoring skills.  Ability to establish relationships with a wider variety of engineering personalities.
  • Extensive knowledge of semiconductor design-in process, application development, and customer support.
  • Prioritization, multiple project management, and time-driven results.
  • Detailed knowledge of industry specifications such as Intel and AMD VR enabling specifications, SMBUS, PMBUS, AVS Bus, AMD SVI3, and Intel SVID.
  • Ability to collaborate with all functions in the organization.
  • Approximately 15+ years of experience in engineering design and/or applications engineering and customer support, with 8+ years of managing application engineering teams.
  • Strong hands-on experience with DC/DC switch mode power supplies and high-frequency, high-current, high-density DC/DC designs.
  • BSEE or MSEE preferred and hands-on experience in lab skills for testing and debugging switch mode power supplies.
